ABSTRACT
Early warning conveys critical information on potentially hazardous events to people and institutions so that actions can be taken to minimize loss and damage. These systems have allowed a growing number of societies to reduce the number of fatalities, injuries, and other losses in such events. However, as the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami showed, there is still room for improvement in warning systems.
