Tourism has grown rapidly to become an activity of worldwide importance. Economic effects of tourism on a nation or specific region are highly significant. These effects include the positives of increased foreign currency earning and government revenues, increased employment and skills of local community members, and regional development. Tourism also can bring inflation, market dependency, financial leakage, and imbalances in the distribution of tourist spending, which can lead to host-community dissatisfaction (see Oppermann and Chon 1997).
