ABSTRACT
It is a great pleasure for me to introduce this book on the first part of the Proceedings of the Bahrain Historical Conference, which was held in Manama in December 1983.
The Conference was judged, by those who took part in it, to have been a resounding success. Certainly we in the Government of Bahrain were delighted at what was achieved during the week the Conference took place. I would now like to take this opportunity to set down formally, the record of the planning and organisation of the Conference for it was, to the State of Bahrain and I hope for the study of the history of that region of which Bahrain is a part, an important and productive event.
