ABSTRACT
In the face of soil degradation and other serious ethical and environmental problems, a growing number of respected scientists and religious leaders around the world recognize that solutions require collaboration. Pope Francis, the Dalai Lama, and other religious leaders appreciate and rely on scientists to help them address serious problems facing human beings and our planet. Leading scientists, whether religiously affiliated or not, also understand the importance of collaborating with religious leaders and communities to solve ethical challenges of common concern. After all, over 80% of the people on this planet self-identify with some form of religion. Furthermore, motivating people of all worldviews—whether religious or secular—to work together for the common good requires not only stating the facts but also engaging their core values and beliefs.
