Painful intercourse, also known as dyspareunia, is a common form of sexual dysfunction regularly seen by the gynaecologist. Its prevalence is thought to range from 8 to 22 percent in women. It may be clas-sified as:
Superficial: pain arises at the vaginal introitus.
Deep: pain is felt within the pelvis.
