ABSTRACT

Purposeful and automatic body movements comprise a large variety of behaviors crucial for daily living that are produced to accomplish different behavioral goals (e.g., locomotion, speech, reaching and manipulating objects, and nonverbal communication, among others). Perhaps because of the mundane quality of the behaviors, 126motor functions and praxis are subjects often neglected in edited volumes. Yet, movement, as one of the most explicit components of behavior, is one of the most objectively measurable manifestations of physiological, psychological, and cognitive processes. Movement in the external space is presumably one of the most crucial variables in evolution, and probably the most common behavioral outcome in animals, that implies a functional goal.
