ABSTRACT
The drilling industry is very large, employing millions of people, producing much of the world’s energy by harvesting in oil, natural gas, and geothermal fluids from deep in the earth. While being a very large industry, the technology needs are also very diverse. Applications for well logging comprise hundreds of different logging tools from simple temperature measurements to pulse neutron backscatter to acoustic imaging of the well wall or rock face. Well temperatures are also diverse ranging from 30°C to 350°C. With a molten core, the drillable earth can reach temperatures over 500°C.
