ABSTRACT

One major application of multimedia is the vast arrays of consumer electronics, including front-end capturing devices such as digital cameras, camcorders, webcams, camera-phones, surveillance cameras, infrared cameras, and back-end delivery, storage, and display devices such as terrestrial television broadcasting, cable TV, satellite TV, mobile TV, Digital Video Broadcast (DVB), set-top box, peer-to-peer video streaming, YouTube, Facebook, Google, MSN, VCR, Hi-Fi, Digital Video Disk (DVD), Blu-ray, iPad, and so on. With the development of modern networking technologies, particularly high-speed Internet, we can now exchange various kinds of multimedia information with each other in any place, at any time, and using any device. Digital image and video data undoubtedly form the major trunk of the digital multimedia world.
