ABSTRACT

As pointed out in section I, there is a very strong link between obesity and blood-glucose dysregulation, which is apparent in type 2 diabetes. The growing incidence of obesity among children and adults, in the U.S in particular, is accompanied by a commensurate increase in the prevalence type 2 diabetes in all individuals. As expected, with the various comorbidities associated with diabetes, there is also a concomitant increase in the incidence of diabetic complications. Consequently, there is an exponential rise in the health-care costs associated with the management of diabetes and its many complications.
