ABSTRACT
Genetic recombination in RNA viruses is defined as any process involving the exchange of information between genomic RNA molecules. We are not concerned here with the analogous process of reassortment, which occurs between segmented RNA viruses, nor with internal rearrangements seen the genomes of defective interfering particles, which are reviewed in Chapter 8 of this volume.
