In the course of organizing the present volume on nutritional approaches to aging research, it became apparent that almost no data were available on a possible relationship between nutrition and arthritis or any rheumatoid condition. Computer scans of several data banks including Medline, Biosis, Excerpta Medica and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricola yield only one truly relevant title. An old-fashioned hand and eye search of the Index Medicus and several journals devoted to arthritis and related diseases was only slightly more successful.
