The Difficulties and the Possibilities of Epidemiologic Investigations of Low Risks Attributable to Food Constituents

Although epidemiology may have first been used by Hippocrates, the definition or meaning has undergone some significant changes since then. First described as the study of epidemics and, later, as the study of the determinants of differences in disease distributions in human populations, epidemiology today refers essentially to the activities of the epidemiologist.
