ABSTRACT
Progesterone is secreted in varying quantities by the gonadal and adrenal tissue. During childhood the rate of progesterone production is low and it increases at the time of puberty and during the age of reproduction. In nonpregnant women of reproductive age the corpus luteum becomes the major source of progesterone.
