ABSTRACT
Structural analysis of historical structures is a delicate matter because it must deal with complex geometrical data and incomplete knowledge of the actual characteristics of its material. The safety of ancient masonry structures is particularly difficult to assess. However, plastic theory and limit state analysis provides powerful theoretical tools to understand their stability.
