ABSTRACT

What is the story of a person’s life? What are the everyday stories people tell themselves and others about who they are, how they live and why they do things? Everyone has a story, and every person in society is surrounded by stories, macro- and micro-narratives, to help them understand the world and their place in it. Stories are transmitted through every possible medium and comprise a significant component of everyday interaction. It could be argued, in fact, that life stories and self-creation are more prevalent and more powerful than ever before, with the advent of social media making so many people into their own biographers. So too is the case with the process of becoming a midwife.
