ABSTRACT

Before the introduction of mobile phone technology in the 1980s, exposures to radio frequency (RF) fields in the general population were rare and mostly limited to the very low fields from radio and television transmitters and a few occupational settings. Handheld mobile phones were introduced toward the end of the 1980s, and since then the number of people exposed to low-level RF fields has increased tremendously. The rapid increase in mobile phone use and other wireless technologies has led to a growing concern among the public about potential harmful effects of these exposures.
