ABSTRACT

Rehabilitation has been shown as an effective method to treat balance disorders. A correct evaluation of balance is needed to plan the rehabilitation therapy and to monitor the patient evolution. This paper presents a system that can be used to assess balance disorders and to recommend rehabilitation programs based on a force plate and software. The patient centre of pressure (COP) movement is evaluated and compared to normal patterns. An individual score is provided for each test: visual, somatosensory, vestibular and dynamic systems. After the evaluation a rehabilitation program based on biofeedback is proposed. This system is used satisfactory in hospitals (otorhinolaryngology, neurology, and rehabilitation), insurance companies working on safety and health at work, spas and other clinical resorts.
