ABSTRACT
In addition to static loads, certain steel structures are also exposed to varying stresses, so that verification against fatigue is necessary. Until now, a possible positive influence of high strength steels cannot be considered in the fatigue design of structural steel details in Europe. The presented investigations provide a summary of the state of the art on the influence of the steel grade on the fatigue strength of welded details. Furthermore, an overview of normative regulations in standards is given. Finally, a database evaluation of numerous test data from the literature shows findings on the influence of high strength steel on the fatigue strength of welded details. The assessed welded details comprise apart from load-carrying components, such as the cruciform joint, non-load carrying details as the transverse stiffener for example.
