ABSTRACT

Compared with traditional structures, lattice components produced by additive manufacturing have an outstanding mechanical performance with ultra-low density per unit. This lattice structure consisting of periodic unit cells can carry loads in tension or compression. In this study, the numerical simulation is used to explore the effect of the metal coating on the lattice units, and the experiment has been conducted to validate the mechanical properties of metal-coated lattice structure. The results of the simulation indicate that the coating technology can enhance the relative stiffness to density for lattice structures. Nevertheless, the experimental results exhibit the controversial conclusion, which was possibly caused by plating technologies for lattice with thin rods.
