Infants with congenital heart disease in the first year of life

Introduction For every 10,000 live births, 23 children have congenital heart disease that requires surgery before the age of 1 year. These children fall into two categories: those who require surgery within the first year of life, and those who, philosophically, we consider would do better if complete correction were performed during this time (Table 57.1).
