ABSTRACT

Selenium (Se) plays a crucial role in our diet, and it can help prevent the Kaschin-Beck disease (KBD) and affect immune responses. Although KBD is presently controlled in most regions of China, it is still active and severe in the Tibetan Plateau (Chen et al. 2015), especially in the north area of the Yalu Zangbu River. The average total Se content of the Tibetan Plateau is much lower than the inland of China. Therefore, there has been increased attention given to local people’s health in Tibet, and to creating a smart-technology-driven Se-enrichment strategy for the Tibetan plateau.
