ABSTRACT

Selenium (Se) plays an irreplaceable key role in nutrition, including lipids, proteins, and other microelements (Xiang et al. 2016). The lack of selenium-rich soils (Rayman 2012) and the benefits of Se for human health may increase consumer demand for developing natural Se-rich agricultural products. Meanwhile, there is increased value in selenium-rich soils for their ability to develop natural selenium-rich agricultural products (Hu et al. 2010), which can safely and effectively transfer Se to human beings through the food chain. However, there is no unified standard in China to define selenium-rich soil. This study is based on the multi-target geochemistry survey in Shaanxi Province, which collected surface soil Se data over an area of 39500 km2, which systematically sorted out data on wheat grain Se content, rhizosphere soil Se content, and pH. There were two projects: (1) Comprehensive study on the development and utilization of alkaline Se-rich soil in Guanzhong region of Shaanxi Province and (2) Geochemical investigation and evaluation of Se-rich area in Guanzhong-Tianshui economic zone (Guanzhong basin).
