ABSTRACT
Tolerance is the name given to the ability of an organism to neutralize the effects of a drug to which it is exposed for a prolonged period and results either in the failure of a given dose to elicit the expected effects or in the need to increase the dose to retain the desired effect. Within this broad definition, several subdefinitions may be used.
