ABSTRACT

The starting point in the discussion of the Monte Carlo method concerns the procurement of a high-quality random number source. A random number is a particular value of a continuous variable uniformly distributed on the unit interval which, together with others of its kind, meets certain conditions. A high quality random number sequence is a long stream of numbers with the characteristic that the occurrence of each number in the sequence is unpredictable and that the stream of digits of the sequence pass certain tests (designed to detect departures from randomness) which are traditional among statisticians.
