ABSTRACT

Grazing management objectives are basically the same under coconuts as on conventional pastures; these include (1) maintain high production of good quality forage for the longest possible time, (2) maintain a favorable balance between forage species, (3) encourage rapid regrowth during and/or after grazing or cutting, (4) make wise compromises between yield and forage quality, (5) achieve efficient utilization of the forage produced, (6) obtain high animal production, and (7) minimize the need for mowing, weed control, or other costly operations. In the following sections some of the above-mentioned points will be discussed in greater detail.
