ABSTRACT
An informal research group in the Agriculture and Entomology Departments at the University of Queensland, interested in the problems of pest management in cotton, was formed in 1975, funded by the Australian Research Grants Committee. The group developed an alternative strategy for growing cotton, employing a more ecologically sound approach to pest control than any currently available (Blood et al., 1975). This alternative strategy was based on overcoming environmental, technological and economic barriers.
