ABSTRACT

A busy eye casualty clinic is a microcosm of the world at large. It is fast paced, stressful, only partially controllable and can make or break the doctor within. We all like to feel in control of events, to act to order our world to minimise fear and stress, but we can only do so much. This is mainly due to the nature of eye casualty; there is never a control over the calls that come, the emergencies that walk in, the trauma that occurs out there every day and the staff working with you that can make all the difference. But there are ways to cope, which are mentioned in this chapter.
