ABSTRACT

The need to communicate in the foreign language, especially English, is currently prevalent throughout the globe to the extent it is usually one of the major requirements in several job advertisements. This calls for the development of English learning materials to match the specific area of need. Therefore, the goals of learning English for Specific Purposes, in this case, Professional Nurses, is to help the students broaden their vocabularies in relation with nursing to have the ability to explain and communicate with their patients in the language. This study made use of qualitative research to determine suitable teaching materials and data were collected through the use of field notes and questionnaires. The subjects included student nurses of Gatot Soebroto Nursing Academy. The data were analyzed through the use of a descriptive approach. The results showed that four skills including interesting book layout needed in developing English learning materials for Student Nurses.
