ABSTRACT

The world’s energy consumption is increasing by 2∼3% each year, so energy shortage is a serious issue if people don’t save energy. Taiwan lacks its own sources of energy and depends on imported energy. Teaching the people of Taiwan how to save energy is a very important issue. In this paper, we designed a security and energy-saving system to overcome this problem. The designed system integrates an embedded system, a fingerprint reader, a database, a network and 4G transmission techniques. The designed system can be used in offices, homes and government buildings. When an employee enters the office, he/she uses the fingerprint reader to sign in. This information will be sent to the host database, and the power of the employee’s equipment will be turned on, and the employee can switch on the lights, air conditioning, and so on. When the employee leaves and signs out through the fingerprint reader, this information is also sent to the database, and the power used by the employee will be turned off. The embedded system introduced and implemented verifying and recording the information of fingerprint. There is also a fingerprint reader for drawer. When the user wants to open the drawer, he/she can open it by applying the authorized owner’s fingerprint. A camera was adopted for the system. If an unauthorized user wants to open the drawer, the embedded system turns on the alarm, takes a picture with the camera and a message will be sent to the user through 4G transmission. The experiments show that the designed system works correctly in an office.
