ABSTRACT
In this chapter we present different kinds of patient support systems such as the Alternating Pressure Mattress (APM), the Low Air Loss Bed System (LALBS), the Air Fluidized Bed (AFB), the Water Bed, the Automated Bed, and the Oscillating Wheelchair. We discuss their working principles, advantages, disadvantages, and applications. We also present experimental data that show how well those pressure relief methods succeed in redistributing pressure on the body.
