ABSTRACT

Facing the association of unexplained fever (UEF) and neurological impairment, one has to consider three possible etiologies:

Neurological impairment is the result of prolonged fever (febrile convulsions, febrile delirium, etc.).

Neurological impairment is caused by a systemic disorder manifested as UEF.

UEF is caused exclusively by a neural or neuromuscular impairment.
