ABSTRACT

The Sulb Series is part of the Panafrican basement complex, west of the Nile in the southern part of the Wadi Halfa Province, Northern State of Sudan. It is a zone which extends in N-S direction and forms the border between the high grade migmatitic and granitic older basement in the west, and the low grade volcanosedimentary sequence of the Abu Sari Group in the east (see Denkler et al., this volume). Such an association of low grade metamorphic rocks with migmatitic gneisses is frequently observed in Sudan, but with little direct evidence on the nature of the contact, and a detailed knowledge of the geological history near this border is of general interest.
