ABSTRACT
The complex chemical processes occurring during the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of diamond are fascinating and exciting from many perspectives. First, how does one understand the process of growing a material under conditions in which it is metastable, e.g. what are the critical details and limitations? What are the complex gas phase, surface and bulk chemical processes which lead to diamond vs. graphite or amorphous carbon?
