ABSTRACT

It is a pleasure for me to be here and to be talking with you about drinking water quality issues. These issues are very complicated of course, and it is very difficult to divorce the health concern from the fact, from the hypothesis, from the potential. But nevertheless, all of us feel that it is essential that there be very high quality drinking water available to the public, that there should not be any question in people’s minds as to the quality of their drinking water, and that it is our collective responsibility, as water quality professionals, to assure that is the case. We provide the treatment and the controls over contamination at the source, and we are involved in establishing quality specifications. Together, we must assure that the public does not have any significant risk from exposure to drinking water contamination, and that the public should be confident that their drinking water is safe.
