ABSTRACT
The past 25 years have seen a tremendous increase in our understanding of how chemicals are used in insect communication and other aspects of their behavior. Throughout, an underlying interest in the field has been to learn how these chemicals might be used in managing insect pests in a more selective manner, minimizing effects from more ecologically disruptive controls such as use of insecticides.
