ABSTRACT
Surface and groundwaters can be contaminated by pesticides. In the case of surface waters, pesticide contamination is dependent on the season and generally does not last long. On the other hand, groundwater contamination, for the reasons previously discussed in this volume, usually is not season dependent and has a strong inertia. Moreover, a pesticide may became detectable in groundwater only after numerous agricultural applications over a period of years.
