Groundwater is the most important source of drinking water supply in many countries especially in plainlands, often amounting to over 90% of total tapped water. The introduction of stringent limits for pesticide concentrations in water destined for human consumption has focused attention, mainly in Europe and the U.S., on groundwater contamination by such compounds. ^{1 , 2}
