ABSTRACT

The British Library holds one of the richest and most comprehensive collections of the world’s knowledge. The collection is at the heart of the unparalleled range of services that are provided to national and international users in reading rooms and exhibition galleries and through document supply. The Library is active in its use of electronic services and digitization to provide effective and ever-wider access to its holdings. One of its main tasks is to collect, preserve, and provide access to the United Kingdom’s National Published Archive. Significantly, new Legal Deposit regulations, which came into force in April 2013, extended this remit into the digital domain and conferred on the British Library (and the other UK legal deposit libraries) the right to receive a copy of every UK electronic publication including blogs, e-books, and the entire UK web domain.
