ABSTRACT
Automated discourse generation, also known as natural language generation (NLG), is a subfield of computational linguistics focusing on theories and methods for creating natural “texts” of all kinds automatically by machine. This entry provides an overview of the main application areas of natural language generation, motivations for adopting natural language technology, the theoretical problems addressed, and the technical solutions adopted.
