ABSTRACT
It is widely agreed that searching is part of a larger task performance and that it should be studied in this context. To be able to reveal the process nature of searching, a task-based approach can be used. This entry discusses task-based approach and its use as a framework for field studies, discusses relevant task features, and presents some of the typical methods for studying task-based information interaction in the real-world context.
