ABSTRACT
Professional school librarians have served schools in the United States for just over 100 years. They are certified or licensed to teach in schools as a part of the education rules and regulations established state by state. Their role is to provide access to information for students and teachers, to help teachers teach and students learn. They collaborate with teachers to build curriculum and they expand the use of technology in their schools to help others navigate through the mass of information on the Internet. Studies have shown a strong relationship between the presence of a professional school librarian and a school library, which are factors in the achievement of students.
