ABSTRACT

Papyrology is the science of preserving, reading, and interpreting ancient texts written on papyrus. It includes texts written on other materials using ink. The majority of preserved papyri come from the first millennium b.c. and the first millennium a.d.; most are in Greek, but many texts in Egyptian and other languages also survive. They contribute to our knowledge of ancient literature and books, as well as practically every aspect of ancient history, including especially social, economic, and cultural history.
