ABSTRACT

ORCID is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an open registry of unique person identifiers for researchers, and to working collaboratively with the research community to embed these identifiers in research workflows to connect researchers and research. Together, the registry and embedding of identifiers supports discoverability and ensures that researchers get credit for their work. This entry describes the ORCID mission and organizational structure, describes relationships with other identifier systems, and provides details on the use of technical tools to support adoption and embedding of ORCID identifiers in research systems.
